Arvind Kejriwal says it’s too late for forming a Delhi alliance of AAP with Congress
Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party said that they won’t form an alliance with the Congress now as it has been a long time since thet have been giving the idea of an alliance for the Lok Sabha election in Delhi. “There will be no alliance with the Congress in Delhi,” AAP leader Gopal Rai said in Delhi.
Rai said, AAP’s party’s campaign will be launched for the Lok Sabha from March 23.
“We kept on pleading (with the Congress)… they acted very arrogantly,” Rai said.
But there was a growing section within the party that felt the Congress may not be in great shape to take on the BJP on its own.
“As far as I know there are senior leaders in Delhi who think that defeating BJP is party’s immediate responsibility; for it we should form an alliance with AAP, that’s the thinking of the majority of leaders,” PC Chacko, AICC general secretary in-charge of Delhi Congress, had said hours earlier.
Chacko had indicated that Rahul Gandhi would “take a decision in a few days time”.
Rai said AAP couldn’t wait any more.
“If we had continued to wait any further for the Congress, our campaign would have suffered a huge setback,” the Delhi AAP leader said.
“We had decided in principle to part of the mahagathbandhan at the national level and ally with the Congress in Delhi. But the Congress has kept everyone confused. “This has put a huge dent on the anti-BJP campaign and its attitude looks completely non-serious in the entire battle with the BJP,” he said.
Lok Sabha elections 2019 campaigning in Kashmir full of terror
Ghulam Ahmad Mir’s election campaign was just taking off but just as his campaign was picking up steam, the Pulwama attack on 14th February took place killing 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy soldiers.
Mir, now says that the political flow has been broken and it would be a tough campaign.“We live at ground zero and are worried how situation is panning out…it will take time to gain the momentum again. Here everyone is fearful now,’’ he said.
“The Pulwama attack was a setback and will have direct impact on mainstream politicians who were trying to start campaigns in different parts of Kashmir by organising meetings and rallies,’’ said Abdul Hamid Gania, who hails from Anantnag town. The state’s chief electoral officer Shalinder Kumar said the Pulwama attack has put the administration on alert. “All necessary measures have been taken to ensure free and fair elections. We have to devise our own mechanism to avert that type of situation,” he said.
A senior police officer, said he hoped that things would be back on track soon. “The suicide attack was big but additional security will be given to the political leaders to resume their activities.’’
“The BJP has an edge over the Congress and other parties in Jammu, and recent events in Pulwama and the cross-border attacks will have impact in Jammu and its adjoining areas,’’ said Pervaz Majeed, assistant professor at a government college in north Kashmir.
