Total Dhamaal won’t release in Pakistan

Published

on

Actor – Producer Ajay Devgan on Monday announced that his forthcoming film “Total Dhamaal” will not release in Pakistan. The decision comes after the Pulwama terror attack that claimed the lives of 49 CRPF troopers last week.

“In light of the current situation, the team of ‘Total Dhamaal’ has decided to not release the film in Pakistan,” Ajay tweeted.

Actor Ritesh Deshmukh also wrote: “In light of the current situation the team of ‘Total Dhamaal’ has decided to not release the film in Pakistan”.

In the worst ever terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir since militancy erupted in 1989, a suicide bomber JeM on February 14 banged his vehicle packed with explosives into a CRPF bus in Pulwama district on Jammu Kashmir Highway.

The attack, much like the one in Uri in 2016, has impacted cultural ties between the two nations.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) in India on Sunday said filmmakers will not be allowed to release their films in Pakistan after the dastardly attack.

Last week, “Gully Boy” released in Pakistan.

“Total Dhamaal” is the third part of the successful movie “Dhamaal”, which originally starred Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Ritesh Deshmukh alongside Sanjay Dutt.

It also stars Madhuri Dixit Nene, Anil Kapoor and Boman Irani. The film is slated to release on February 22.

After Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan gives support to families of bravehearts; Ajay Devgan contributes Rs 50 lakh on behalf of Total Dhamaal team

As the nation mourns the loss of its bravehearts in the Pulwama terror attack on Thursday, people across the country are joining forces to lend their support to the kin of the victims. Within 48 hours of the attack, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar pledged financial assistance to the slain jawans’ families. Now, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan too have paid their homage — while Khan has pledged Rs 5 lakh to each of the families of the heroes, Devgan has committed to contribute Rs 50 lakh on behalf of the cast and crew of Total Dhamaal.

A source says, “In recent times, Bollywood stars have often been pulled up for not taking a stand on sensitive issues, but they would rather do their bit silently. Ajay Devgan, who is producing Total Dhamaal [along with Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria] has contributed Rs 50 lakh. Salman, too, has committed to donate Rs 2.5 crore to the families of the 49 soldiers who lost their lives or were injured in the attack. He is doing it through his foundation, Being Human.”

In the dastardly attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Adil Ahmed Dar rammed his explosive-laden SUV into a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, thus claiming over 40 lives. Soon after, Kumar reportedly donated Rs 5 crore to Bharat Ke Veer, the fund-raising initiative that was launched in April 2017 to help the next of kin of slain soldiers.

Filmmakers call for Pakistan boycott

The Pulwama attack that left many CRPF jawans martyred has rocked Bollywood as well. The aftermath of the Uri attack saw Pakistani actors and technicians being banned in Hindi films and now filmmakers and the trade are calling for a ban on Indian films releasing in Pakistan.

Ashoke Pandit, the president of the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA) has called for a blanket ban on the trade of films with Pakistan. “We should not release films there. If anyone in India is making money from Pakistan, he should be treated as an enemy of the country,” says Pandit. “In fact, we should stop all trade with Pakistan, and not just with films,” he says adding that the next film to release in Pakistan — Total Dhamaal should be pulled out. “The producer of the film has to take a call because the territory would already have been sold,” he says.

“We hope that producer Ashok Thakeria will take a call on this along with Fox Star on what should be done. Pakistan mints money when our films release there. If a Simmba was sold for five crores for the Pakistan territory, they would have made more than double. We should not allow that.” Mehul Kumar, producer and director of films like Tiranga and Krantiveer and the Senior Vice President of the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) says. His films too including the Bachchan starrer Kohraam and Tiranga often spoke about Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. “We should not release our films in Pakistan. Sometimes, we are angry but then we cool off and start again. This ban should be once and for all and we should not have any business with Pakistan,” says Mehul Kumar.

Filmmaker Amit Agarwal who made films like Simran and MS Dhoni says, “I will whole heartedly support any such initiative. For me, nothing is bigger than my country. It is an open truth that Pakistan is allowing terrorist activities in India and Kashmir and our soldiers and people have already suffered a lot due to this. We all need to do our bit to secure our people. We as a nation have to fight back together. Jai Hind!” The latest Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy also released in Pakistan on Thursday and is doing very well.
