Total Dhamaal won’t release in Pakistan

Published

on

Actor – Producer Ajay Devgan on Monday announced that his forthcoming film “Total Dhamaal” will not release in Pakistan. The decision comes after the Pulwama terror attack that claimed the lives of 49 CRPF troopers last week.

“In light of the current situation, the team of ‘Total Dhamaal’ has decided to not release the film in Pakistan,” Ajay tweeted.

Actor Ritesh Deshmukh also wrote: “In light of the current situation the team of ‘Total Dhamaal’ has decided to not release the film in Pakistan”.

In the worst ever terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir since militancy erupted in 1989, a suicide bomber JeM on February 14 banged his vehicle packed with explosives into a CRPF bus in Pulwama district on Jammu Kashmir Highway.

The attack, much like the one in Uri in 2016, has impacted cultural ties between the two nations.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) in India on Sunday said filmmakers will not be allowed to release their films in Pakistan after the dastardly attack.

Last week, “Gully Boy” released in Pakistan.

“Total Dhamaal” is the third part of the successful movie “Dhamaal”, which originally starred Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey and Ritesh Deshmukh alongside Sanjay Dutt.

It also stars Madhuri Dixit Nene, Anil Kapoor and Boman Irani. The film is slated to release on February 22.

After Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan gives support to families of bravehearts; Ajay Devgan contributes Rs 50 lakh on behalf of Total Dhamaal team

As the nation mourns the loss of its bravehearts in the Pulwama terror attack on Thursday, people across the country are joining forces to lend their support to the kin of the victims. Within 48 hours of the attack, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar pledged financial assistance to the slain jawans’ families. Now, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan too have paid their homage — while Khan has pledged Rs 5 lakh to each of the families of the heroes, Devgan has committed to contribute Rs 50 lakh on behalf of the cast and crew of Total Dhamaal.

A source says, “In recent times, Bollywood stars have often been pulled up for not taking a stand on sensitive issues, but they would rather do their bit silently. Ajay Devgan, who is producing Total Dhamaal [along with Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria] has contributed Rs 50 lakh. Salman, too, has committed to donate Rs 2.5 crore to the families of the 49 soldiers who lost their lives or were injured in the attack. He is doing it through his foundation, Being Human.”

In the dastardly attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Adil Ahmed Dar rammed his explosive-laden SUV into a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, thus claiming over 40 lives. Soon after, Kumar reportedly donated Rs 5 crore to Bharat Ke Veer, the fund-raising initiative that was launched in April 2017 to help the next of kin of slain soldiers.

Gully Boy movie review: A film to be watched

Published

Gully Boy
Director: Zoya Akhtar
Cast: Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Verma, Amruta Subhash, SheebaChaddha, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Maurya

Zoya Akhtar’s new film Gully Boy is a story about a poor boy from Dharavi whose dreams are bigger than his reality. It’s based on the lives of people, who made their journey from rags to rap-stars. Like them Murad, our protagonist, is determined not to let his circumstances restrict his ambition.

There are many layers in the film: it’s also about Murad’s coming-of-age and his discovery and understanding of who he truly is and what he stands for. It’s about finding a person’s hidden talent, in this movie, through poetry and rap. It is also a beautiful love story, and love letter to Mumbai city where dreams come true.

What makes this story worth watching is : an extraordinary performance from Ranveer Singh as Murad. And the music and lyrics, which emotionally connects the audience.
The songs are loaded with powerful words that especially connect in their respective situations. Murad, who has an abusive father, raps about his mother is going through, about seeking freedom and about fulfilling his dreams.
The dialogue, the punchlines, they’re real.

One of the things to be enjoyed in Gully Boy is the love story between Murad and Safeena, the character that Alia Bhatt plays. Safeena is a medical student and belongs to a conservative Muslim family; but Zoya and her co-writer Reema Kagti have written such a differnent character in Safeena. She loves Murad and you don’t want to fight her. Alia is terrific in the role.

Gully Boy is one of Zoya Akhtar’s stronger films; in fact for me it ranks right up there with her extraordinary first film Luck By Chance. The world she creates here is enjoyable, the characters that inhabit this world, and the paces she puts them through.
